Committee for the Millennium Development Goals/Global Reconciliation

MAKING THE WORLD WORK FOR EVERYONE, WITH GOD'S HELP
Bishop Powell has declared December 16, the Third Sunday of Advent, to be our diocesan MDG Sunday. Here are a few possible ways to observe MDG Sunday:
- Use the Propers for the day as a resource for preaching about God's call to those of us who are advantaged to respond to extreme poverty in the third world;
- Publicize information and resources available from the Bishop Marmion Resource Center related to the MDGs;
- Distribute information found through links on this page;
- On December 16, take a special collection for, or devote the loose offering to, MDG-related projects. Because the service project for Youth @ Council 2008 is to package meals for Stop Hunger Now, donations to the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia marked for Stop Hunger Now are especially appropriate.
The MDG committee was established by Bishop Powell in response to a resolution passed by the Council of the Diocese in January of 2006. Council 2007 passed another resolution in support of the MDGs.
