The Marc Nikkel School, Jonglei, Bor Diocese, Sudan

For years our diocese has enjoyed a relationship with the Province of the Episcopal Church of Sudan. Most of that time, we relied on the ministry of our missionary, the Rev. Marc Nikkel . After Marc's untimely death in 2000, we cast about for new ways to express our solidarity with persecuted Christians in Sudan.

We are now blessed with a new and effective way to be involved in Christian mission in Sudan. The Marc Nikkel School, opened in 2003, needs our help. Founded by the Rev. Bartholomayo Bol Deng, Marc's protege who is now Archdeacon of Bor Diocese, the school operates in Jonglei, in Bor Diocese. It serves over 300 students.

Funds raised in the 2005 St. Nicholas Appeal have furthered the work of the school by providing a solar windmill to generate electricity, adding to the effort to rebuild Church and society in Sudan. With electricity available, Bol is adding a clinic to the school, offering night classes, boarding students from beyond walking distance, and adding a secondary school to the original primary school. Our funds financed the project, while Project Education Sudan provided the technical expertise and personnel to install the equipment.

Education and health care lie at the heart of redevelopment efforts, and we are blessed with a sacred trust to make a difference in a war-torn part of the world.

Donate online to the Marc Nikkel School through our secure payment service. $200 pays all educational expenses (tuition, books, school supplies, meals) of one student for a year.
