Day for All People

The Virginia Interfaith Center is pleased to announce that Governor Tim Kaine will join us for the Day for All People advocacy day. Governor Kaine is a friend and long-time supporter of the Center and its desire to advocate for vulnerable populations in Virginia.

Learn, Pray, Act at advocacy day

Introducing Advocacy (Beginners) - experiencing state government for the first time. This track is best for interested citizens with little or no experience in legislative advocacy. Beginners will participate in a guided tour of the General Assembly Building to observe a committee meeting up close, a Virginia Civics crash course to learn about the General Assembly structure and “how a bill becomes a law.” This track also includes a tour of the newly restored Capitol, ending in the chamber gallery to be officially recognized by General Assembly members.

Legislative Immersion (Intermediate) - education about the legislative process and how to participate as a person of faith. This track is for those who have a grasp of Virginia Civics, but don’t feel quite ready to advocate issues with their legislators. The Intermediates will accompany the Beginners on the guided tour of the GA and observe a committee meeting. Then, participants at this level will break away to meet with former legislators and seasoned lobbyists to learn about what takes place “behind the scenes” to bring together legislators, administration and lobbyists. Guest legislators and Richmond insiders work to demystify the process.

Influencing the Agenda (Advanced) - faithful citizens engaged in advocacy together. The “Advanced” track is for those who are ready to meet with their legislators or aides to discuss current issues. Advanced Advocates will have an issue briefing before heading to the GA Building to meet in groups with legislators or aides.
