10:45-12 PM Plenary Session
The Rev. Canon Keith Brown, a consultant for the Church Pension Group, will join us for a plenary session to talk about keeping focused on mission by looking at subjects such as:
- the improvement of buildings and grounds
- the realities of parish finance
- using numbers to make future oriented decisions
- discerning a godly vision
- issues of church size and culture
- generational change 101
12 - 1 PM Lunch and Fellowship
1:15-2:30 PM Small Group Workshops
- Using Quantitative Data to Make Future-Oriented Decisions – The Rev. Canon Keith Brown, Consultant for CPG
- This workshop will focus on basic parish financial realities such as clergy and lay compensation and the relation to total parish budge. It will also include information on church size and growth, and dealing with how to use the parochial report data for future oriented decision making.
- Managing Records – Alicia Sells, Archivist Roanoke City Libraries
- This workshop will include information on parish record retention and management. Ms. Sells will discuss creating a retention schedule and methods of records management on a small budget.
- Episcopal Payroll Services – Patricia Tucker, Church Pension Group
- This workshop will provide an overview of two payroll processing options for parishes, dioceses and institutions that can ease the challenges of church payroll and filing of tax forms. These options provide complete payroll processing via phone, fax, email or Internet at a low cost. Learn how you can free up time in your office and “do it right” by utilizing Episcopal Payroll Services.
- Parish Transitions (previously Deployment) – The Rev. Gene Anderson, Deployment Officer for DIOSWVA
- The necessity of parishes to deal with transitions all the time and a model for parish ministry as the 21st Century moves forward. A short sharing of the possibilities for a parish when clergy leave due to retirement, another call, or whatever. Resource: The Elephant in the Boardroom.
2:45-4 PM Breakout Sessions
During this time, participants will breakout into small groups according to their position in the parish. Participants will be given this time “unstructured” to talk with each other and share ideas and experiences. Each group will have facilitators to help focus the conversation and to offer their own experiences.
