Small Church Leadership Conference at Trinity

by Kathy Killian

The theme of this year’s conference was “Everyone Can Do Something” and we learned that indeed we can! Nine participants from our diocese joined 45 others to attend three days of worship, workshops, music and relaxation May 27-30 at Trinity Center in beautiful Salter Path, North Carolina.

We learned about outreach and adult Christian Education done by the smallest of churches – ringing the church bell at 7 on Wednesday evenings and inviting everyone, of every denomination, wherever they were, to stop for a moment and just say a prayer; a Friday evening Dessert and Decaf to allow adults to come together for discussion. One of our presenters was Chad Stuttsman, of Stop Hunger Now, who put us to work packaging over 21,000 bags of fortified rice to be sent to Hatii - which we did in only two afternoon sessions! I’m not sure we packed as fast as our diocesan youth this year at Council, but we had just as much fun. Our musicians were from the St. Ambrose Jazz Mass Quartet in Raleigh and, besides providing the music for our worship services, got our toes tapping as they “jammed” after dinner to keep us entertained.
The conference is an annual event so you can mark your calendar now for next year May 26-29, 2009.
